The Hospice Waikato Bucket List Banquet was first held in 2013. Back then, it was a much smaller event and in that inaugural year, it doubled as a fundraiser and an opportunity to introduce Craig Tamblyn, Hospice Waikato’s then new CEO, to the Hospice community.
Held every year since then (except for 2020 due to a COVID related interruption), the Bucket List Banquet has grown to be an iconic Waikato event. It’s a night of fabulous food & entertainment and, with more than 1,000 guests, it’s a fantastic networking opportunity for businesses in the Waikato.
The evening also provides an opportunity for our business community to support their community hospice – Hospice Waikato. If asked, most people would describe the core business of Hospice Waikato as the ‘delivery of specialist community palliative care’, which means we look after adults and children who have a terminal or a life limiting illness. In reality, we do so much more than that.
When a patient is referred to Hospice Waikato, we wrap a bubble of care around the dying person and their family and whānau, and we provide a variety of support services that stretch far beyond the medical and nursing care that is so often associated with Hospice Waikato. Our team of doctors, nurses, counsellors and social workers, music and massage therapists, our kaiawhina, and our support staff and volunteers are focused on ensuring that the patient lives every moment.
Providing this special support to people at such a vulnerable time in their lives is a privilege and our Hospice Waikato team are very proud of the compassionate, personal and thoughtful way in which they care for people at the end of their lives.
WE COULDN’T DO IT WITHOUT YOU
Having event partners enables us to deliver an absolutely fantastic event that shares the story of our Hospice service delivery, provides a networking opportunity for our 1,000 guests, and raises important funds for Hospice Waikato patient care.
We’d like to acknowledge our event partners here and we unashamedly encourage you to support these businesses where you can.

YOUR SUPPORT MATTERS
Another way you can be involved
With the Government funding about 70% of our annual operating costs, generating funds to keep our specialist community palliative care services free of charge is always front of mind for us here at Hospice Waikato. Our annual Hospice Waikato Bucket List Banquet provides us with an opportunity to host 1,000 of Waikato’s community in a night of networking and celebration, and raise funds for Hospice Waikato at the same time.
A key part of the evening are the auctions. Each year, we receive donations of auction items from a large number of organisations who see this as a great way to support Hospice Waikato. In the past, we have had items donated that are worth anything between $100 and $30,000 and every cent raised goes to support our service delivery.
If you’re not able to make it to this year’s Hospice Waikato Bucket List Banquet, but you’d like to help to ensure our specialist community palliative care services remain free for our community, you’re welcome to make an online donation to Hospice Waikato and we can assure you, your support will be hugely appreciated by the whole team at Hospice Waikato.
